The Forestry Title of the 1990 Farm Bill included authorization for the America the Beautiful program. This program provided funding for the Kentucky Division of Forestry's Urban and Community Forestry Grant program. The division administers this program in cooperation with the Kentucky Urban Forestry Council. The goal of this grant program is to encourage citizen involvement in creating and supporting long-term and sustained Urban and Community Forestry programs.
A competitive grant program for 2009 is currently not available, however, it is advised to stay informed of possible changes in state grant opportunities. One program objective of the Kentucky Urban and Community Forestry Grant program is to meet national performance measures for managing and developing communities as listed in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service’s Performance-Based Methodology for Allocating Urban and Community Forestry Program Funds.
