Kentucky's newest state forest, Marrowbone, is a 1,125-acre tract of land located on Highway 90 in Metcalfe and Cumberland counties.  Kentucky’s seventh state forest has been an active stewardship forest for 30 years and was the 2003 Kentucky Tree Farm of the Year.

Marrowbone State Forest and Wildlife Management Area is strategically located near outstanding state park facilities such as the Barren River, Dale Hollow and Lake Cumberland state resort parks. Visitors now have another option in the commonwealth for hiking and wildlife viewing.

The land was purchased for more than $1.3 million with funds from the Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund and the Forest Legacy Program administered by the U.S. Forest Service in cooperation with its state partners.

Marrowbone State Forest is not open to the public; the division of forestry is currently placing boundary markers and establishing parking areas. When the forest officially opens later this year, it will be open for day use only unless hunting regulations specify extended hours. Allowable activities include regulated hunting, hiking and wildlife viewing. ATV's and horseback riding are prohibited.
