Here is a list of all division programs.
The Division of Forestry offers a variety of programs ranging from forest management and landowner assistance to logger training, urban forestry, forest health, fire prevention and forestry education.
Fire Management Program
The Division of Forestry is responsible for fighting wildland fires on private lands.
Forest Health Program
The division's forest health program focuses on identifying and monitoring insects, diseases and invasive plant problems that threaten our forestlands.
Forest Inventory and Analysis Program
The Division of Forestry, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, conducts a forest resource inventory of the entire state of Kentucky to monitor for health, quality and quantity of Kentucky's forestlands.
Forest Landowner Education The division's landowner education program assists private forest landowners by educating them about the importance of their forestland and by providing technical assistance through forestry field days, woodland owner's short courses, etc.
Forest Legacy Program (FLP)
This program encourages and supports acquisition of conservation easements, legally binding agreements transferring a negotiated set of property rights from one party to another, without removing the property from private ownership. Most FLP conservation easements restrict development, require sustainable forestry practices and protect other values.
Forest Resource Utilization
The goal of the Forest Resource Utilization program is to foster the most efficient use of Kentucky's timber resources.
Forest Stewardship Program
The Kentucky Forest Stewardship Program is a landowner assistance program available to all private, nonindustrial forestland owners who own 10 or more acres of woodlands. Technical planning assistance is provided to these landowners to assist them in reaching the land use goals of their forests.
Forestry Education
Forestry education is an important part of the division's mission to educate the citizens of the commonwealth about the value of our forests by providing leadership, technical assistance and financial support.
Kentucky's Big Tree Program
The division began compiling a list of state champion trees in 1968. The first list contained the names of only 51 species, now there are more than 90 species. The list is continually changing as new species are added and former champions are replaced either because they die or a larger specimen is reported. The division's list of state champions is restricted to native and naturalized trees as listed in the Trees and Shrubs of Kentucky by Mary E. Wharton and Roger W. Barbour.
Kentucky Firewise Program
Thousands of homes in Kentucky are threatened each year by wildfires. The Kentucky Firewise Communities Program provides information on how you can protect your home and community before a wildfire strikes.
Master Logger Program
The Kentucky Master Logger Program is a training program designed to enhance the logger's ability to operate efficiently within the framework of constantly changing environmental and safety regulations.
Nursery Program
This program provides information about the division's tree seedling nurseries, tree selection, species availability and planting information.
State Forest Program
The division owns and manages six state forests--Tygarts, Kentenia, Kentucky Ridge, Knobs, Pennyrile and Green River.
Urban Forestry Assistance Program
The division's urban and community forestry program provides assistance to city and county governments, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions in developing or enhancing local urban forestry programs.
